Surgical site infections (SSIs) represent a significant challenge in postoperative care, leading to increased morbidity, prolonged hospital stays, and higher healthcare costs. In light of rising antimicrobial resistance, alternative approaches to infection management are increasingly important. Medical-grade honey, it has emerged as a promising adjunct in SSI prevention and management due to its potent antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and wound-healing properties. This review explores the mechanisms by which medical-grade honey can mitigate infection risk, summarizes clinical evidence supporting its efficacy,
and discusses considerations for its integration into clinical practice.
